Manchester City put pressure on leaders Arsenal on Saturday afternoon. At Selhurst Park Stadium, the team coached by Pep Guardiola had a goal scored by Erling Haaland in a penalty kick to beat Crystal Palace 1-0, for the 27th round of the English Premier League.
With the result, vice-leader City, which receives West Ham in the next round, went to 61 points and stuck with Arsenal, which has 63 and still faces Fulham this Sunday, away from home. Crystal Palace, who visit Arsenal in their next commitment, continue with 27 points, in 12th place.
The first stage wasn’t very busy and, even with his powerful attack, the City failed to bring much danger to the opponent’s goal. The only clear chance for Pep Guardiola’s team was a finish by Haaland, but the Norwegian striker, inside the area, ended up kicking it out. With the score unchanged, the teams went to halftime.
In the second half, Crystal Palace remained closed. Manchester City managed to keep possession of the ball but, again, created no clear scoring chances. In the 32nd minute, in a bid of inattention, Olise arrived late and committed a penalty by taking down Gundogan inside the area. Haaland went to the penalty spot and converted, giving his team the victory.
