“Too early” to know when Neymar will return to the pitch, says PSG

It is still too early to talk about the return of Brazilian striker Neymar, who had ankle surgery on Friday at a hospital in Qatar, the club’s medical director said. Paris Saint Germain in this Saturday.

Before the intervention, the Parisian club assured that the recovery time for Neymar, 31, could reach four months, which means the end of the current season for the player.

“Neymar Jr was operated on yesterday, successfully,” he told AFP the medical director of the Parisian club, Hakim Chalabi, specifying that the striker underwent general anesthesia, but that “he is very well and happy”.

“He is not in much pain and the doctors who operated on him are very satisfied,” he added.

Neymar will remain at the Aspetar sports hospital in Qatar for at least two days and then begin his recovery.

“We will assess later the timing of his return to the pitch. At the moment it is too early to talk about it,” said Chalabi.

The decision will be taken after consultation with the surgeons and as soon as the player undergoes further examinations.

According to Chalabi, Neymar “will have to move around on crutches for a few days, but then he can start doing weight training”.

The Brazilian striker had to be stretchered off during the match against Lille last month. He had previously suffered an injury to the same ankle in 2018.

After the operation, the player should recover “its normal level, but with less risk of relapse”, said the doctor.

Injuries have been constant for Neymar since joining PSG in 2017 from Barcelona for a record €222 million, and in those years the Brazilian has missed more than 100 games with his team for physical reasons and also due to sanctions.
