Sold for more than 60 million reais in July 2022, Gabriel Veron left palm trees marked by good times, titles, controversies and injuries. After almost eight months in Portuguese football, Veron accumulates injuries in Porto.
The striker has played 19 games this season, scoring one goal and providing four assists. The only ball in the net was scored in a game for the Portuguese Cup, against Anadia, from the Portuguese third division.
Veron still hasn’t convinced coach Sérgio Conceição that he deserves to start at Porto and injuries have hindered the player to gain a sequence. With a muscle injury last year and a recent ankle sprain, Veron missed the Dragons in 13 matches.
In Porto’s last game, for Portuguese Championshipthe 20-year-old was on the bench, but didn’t gain minutes in 3-1 victory against Chaves. This Friday, the Dragons face Estoril and Veron may have an opportunity throughout the match.
Passage of Veron through Palmeiras
Created by the Football Academy, Veron caught the attention of Palmeiras fans already in the youth categories and debuted in the professionals under the command of Mano Menezes in 2019. The striker gained a following with Vanderlei Luxemburgo and was used a lot by Abel Ferreira.
For the palm trees, Veron played 95 games, scored 14 goals and won two Libertadores, a Copa do Brasil and a Recopa Sudamericana. In addition, the player suffered from several injuries and controversies, such as when he was caught drinking alcohol while recovering from an injury and on the eve of a duel against São Paulofor the Copa do Brasil.
“Two and a half years ago we were under-17 world champions, he was elected the best player, that obviously adds value. Today, due to injuries, not having participated in many games, a difficult off-field life, the best for Palmeiras and for the athlete was to negotiate it”, declared the president Leila Pereira after the sale of Veron to Porto.
