Parker had been in charge of Brugge since December last year, when coach Carl Hoefkens was sacked because of poor results in the Belgian Championship, despite having managed to qualify for the round of 16 of the Champions League. Less than three months later, the team, which is going through a bad phase, repeated the dose and said goodbye to the 42-year-old English coach.
That way, Scott Parker had just 12 games at the helm of the club, with two wins won, six draws and four defeats suffered, leaving him in fourth place in the Belgian Championship, 11 points behind leader Genk.
Club Brugge was one of the surprises in this edition of the Champions League for the results it achieved during the competition’s group stage, in which it beat clubs considered more traditional such as Atlético de Madrid, Porto and Bayern Leverkusen, including a 4-0 thrashing against Portuguese, away from home. In all, there were three wins, two draws and only one defeat for the Belgians in the group stage of the Champions League, which earned the team qualification for the round of 16 of the tournament.
