Ukraine will appeal to the IOC with a demand to extend the suspension of Russians and Belarusians from tournaments
The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine promised to apply to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with a demand to extend the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes. This was reported on the official website of the Ukrainian NOC.
It is noted that the purpose of the appeal is to prevent the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in international tournaments, in particular, the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In addition, the press service of the NOC announced a statement by the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Vadim Gutsait on measures to prevent the participation of Ukrainian athletes in competitions in which Russians and Belarusians still compete.

On March 6, Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk refused to shake hands with Russian player Varvara Gracheva after the final match of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tournament in Austin (USA). During the awards ceremony, the athletes did not take the traditional joint photo. In addition, they did not mention each other in post-match interviews.
At the end of February 2022, many international sports organizations stopped allowing Russians to compete on the recommendation of the IOC. In some sports, such as tennis, cycling, motorsport and chess, Russians continue to play in a neutral status.
