This Tuesday, the Lazio hosted AZ Alkmaar, from the Netherlands, and lost 2-1 in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Conference League. Pedro opened the scoring in the first half for the Italians and Vangelis Pavlidis and Milos Kerkez turned the game around for the visitors.
The second leg of this match will take place on March 16, at 5 pm (BrasÃlia time), at the AFAS Stadion.
Lazio’s next commitment is for the Italian Championship against Bologna, away from home, on Saturday at 16:45. AZ Alkmaar receives Groningen, also this Saturday, at 4 pm, for the Dutch Championship.
The game
Lazio started the game on top and taking a lot of danger to the opposing goal. At 18 minutes, the score was opened by the home team with a goal by Pedro after a good move and an assist by Mattia Zaccagni. Meanwhile, AZ Alkmaar struggled to get the ball out of their defense and create some offensive play. Even with little production, the visiting team was efficient and reached a tie at 45 minutes of the initial stage, with Vangelis Pavlidis.
In the second half, Lazio were superior again, but continued to waste the opportunities created. On the other side, the chances were slimmer, but the efficiency was higher. In the 17th minute, Milos Kerkez put the Dutch team ahead despite the opponent’s better form. Lazio stopped dominating the duel after they were behind on the scoreboard and tried a final pressure to pull out at least a draw in the first leg, but the defeat, in the end, was inevitable.
