the president of BarcelonaJoan Laporta, said on Tuesday that he had spoken with Lionel Messi’s father about paying tribute to the Argentine star, whose departure from the Catalan club left a “sad feeling”.
“We met (with Jorge Messi). I congratulated Argentina on winning (in the 2022 World Cup) and we talked about paying homage to Leo”, said Laporta.
The leader avoided, however, referring to a possible return of the star to Barça.
“I don’t want to talk about a possible return out of respect for the player and the Paris Saint Germain“, said Laporta in a debate for the two years of the beginning of his second term as president of the ‘blaugrana’ club.
He recalled Messi’s departure from Barcelona stating that “I had to make this decision”.
“The institution is above players, coaches and presidents, and we didn’t have Financial Fair Play”, he explained.
“I would like him to continue and I didn’t know how to do it. I had to choose and I chose the institution”, concluded Laporta.
