PSG coach regrets Neymar’s absence due to injury: “It’s a big loss”

The technician of Paris Saint Germain (PSG), Christophe Galtier, gave an interview this Tuesday – a day before the duel against Bayern Munchenfor the Champions League – and regretted the absence of Brazilian Neymar due to injury. The second leg of the round of 16 is scheduled for this Wednesday, at 5 pm (Brasília time), at the Allianz Arena.

The coach presented the star’s statistics and defended the player’s presence on the field. He also dismissed the idea that the player’s drop could benefit the team, an agenda that was debated in France this past Monday.

“I’ve seen the debate about Neymar. It’s a shame he got this injury in the first place. It’s a big loss for the team. He scored goals and provided a lot of assists during the season. I read that we would be better off without him, but Absolutely not,” commented Galtier.

“Since I arrived here, he has always been very professional. He had a difficult period after the Cup. Could the team be better balanced? Yes, if we analyze the profile of the midfielders. But they scored 18 goals and 16 assists. Neymar in the group helps us to attack and score goals”, he evaluated.

On Monday, the French club announced that Neymar will have to undergo surgery on his ankle. With that, the attacker will be away from three to four months, missing the rest of the season. The operation will be performed at the Aspetar hospital in Doha, Qatar.

The number 10 injured his ankle in the match against Lille, for the 24th round of Ligue 1, in which the Parisian team won by the score of 4-3, including a goal by the Brazilian. In the current season, Neymar scored 18 goals and distributed 16 assists in 29 matches for PSG.
