Joan Laporta, current president of the Barcelona, assured this Tuesday that the club will seek to renew the contract of coach Xavi Hernández. In an interview with the program Equestrian Circlethe director guaranteed the continuity of the coach even if the team loses the title of the Spanish Championship.
“Xavi’s renewal? I’ve already thought about it, even if he doesn’t win LaLiga. I’ve already warned Xavi”, assured Laporta, who also said that he sought to send a message of calm to the coach with confirmation of the renewal.
Barcelona are currently at the top of the Spanish table, with 62 points from 24 matches. According to the president, Xavi is largely responsible for the team’s success this season and has no doubts about the extent of his bond.
“We need to renew because he took risks, he knows the house and he defends Barça’s genuine style. It doesn’t make you stretch your arm more than your sleeve. I’ve thought about it. I hadn’t discussed it with my teammates, but that’s how it is”, he said.
Xavi has a contract with the Catalan club until mid-2024. The former player returned to the club as a coach in November 2021. There have been 75 games played since then and a title won: the Spanish Super Cup, in January.
