In doubles

In doubles matches, Alberto Miño and Emiliano Riofrío, representatives of Ecuador, passed the round of 32 after beating Peruvians Rodrigo Hidalgo and Felipes Duffoo 3-1, with partials 11-8, 11-5, 5-11 and 11-5.

The Ecuadorians in the quarterfinals faced the Argentines Gastón Alto and Horacio Cifuentes, and the gauchos were superior when they beat the tricolor by 1-3 with scores 6-11, 12-10, 10-12 and 7-11.

With these defeats, Ecuador was left without representatives in the tournament and the men’s team games, since in ladies the tricolor does not have representatives.

Paul Street, president of the Ecuadorian Table Tennis Federation, indicated the reasons why Ecuador did not participate with its ladies team in the tournament. “The ladies did not qualify directly, and by desertion of other classified teams Ecuador was given the quota, but we were notified near the start of the competition. As we did not have the economic resources and the projection of passing the phases was not high, precisely because we did not classify directly, we did not have a female presence; on the other hand, with men the option to pass the round was much higher than that of the ladies and that is why they attended the Pan American Championship ”.
