Irina Viner thanked those who supported her after being suspended by FIG
President of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation (VFCG) Irina Viner reacted to the disqualification she received from the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). It is reported by TASS.
“I am very grateful to everyone who supports. Dmitry Chernyshenko and Tatyana Tarasova spoke yesterday. Thanks to them for their support. We will continue to work,” Wiener said.
She also noted that the WFHG continues to work fruitfully
Viner suspended for two years
The decision to remove FIG was announced on March 6. Viner will not be able to participate in or obtain accreditation for international competitions and events under the auspices of the FIG, including work as a coach and head of delegation for a period of two years.
Sanctions against Wiener will come into effect one day after the end of the suspension of Russian gymnasts, effective from March 2, 2022, provided that they are lifted within five years from March 6, 2023. The WFHG has the right to file an appeal with the FIG within 21 days, the organization noted that they would consider the advisability of such a step.
Viner punished for criticizing refereeing at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo
At the Games in Japan, the Israeli Lina Ashram won the all-around in rhythmic gymnastics, who beat the Russian Dina Averina. Viner was unhappy with the refereeing and made a lot of angry statements in the press. The FIG Ethics Committee reviewed them and issued a verdict.
The second reason why Wiener was disqualified was her decision in September 2021 to withdraw the candidacy of the Russian woman Natalya Kuzmina from the election of the head of the FIG technical committee. The head of the WFHG emphasized that at the Olympic Games she “did something nasty.”
In Tokyo, Kuzmina was the chief judge of the competition
Tatyana Tarasova supported Viner
Honored coach of the USSR in figure skating Tatyana Tarasova spoke with words of support for Viner. The specialist described the solution with the phrase “the best are buried alive.” She called the incident an outrageous outrage.
They want to work only with people who are silent, do not have their own opinion, with dependent people who bow

In turn, the head coach of the Russian national gymnastics team, Valentina Rodionenko, said that FIG had made a legal decision.
“Our people are presenting what these statements are after the Olympics. In sports, there is a law that you must be able to lose. When a person does not want to lose, he looks for reasons. This does not do us credit, ”added the coach.
