Norwich City Announces Dean Smith as New Coach

Norwich City, Premier League lantern, announced on Monday Dean Smith as new coach of the first team, with the mission to set the course in the English championship.

Smith, who had run Aston Villa since 2018, was fired from the Birmingham club after a five-game losing streak.

Smith replaces Norwich coach Daniel Farke, who was fired on November 6, right after winning the club’s first victory this season (2-1 against Brentford).

“The last few days have been a whirlwind, but I am so happy to be back and to work for Norwich City in the Premier League,” Smith said.

Smith, who made his debut as a coach in the third division at Walsall, has slowly moved up in the English football divisions. In 2015 he signed with Brentford, in the Championship (second division), and then in 2018 with Aston Villa, which he promoted to the Premier League in its first season.

Under his leadership, Villa remained in the first division, finishing 17th in 2020 and 11th in 2021.

Norwich, who have just been promoted this season, are in last place in the Premier League, with just 5 points, five from the first save position, which is currently occupied by Watford.
