Niger runs over Djibouti in the Qualifiers, but fails to qualify

In a game of nine goals, Niger thrashed the Djibouti selection by 7-2, this Monday (15th), at 1 pm (GMT), in a game valid for the African Qualifiers for the World Cup. Both teams no longer have a chance of classification.

The only chance the Nigerian team had to advance to the next stage was a historic rout, which in fact happened, but the two conceded goals meant that the team had a zero goal difference, not being enough to reach a spot in the third phase of the qualifiers.

The 25-year-old Nigerian Victorien Adebayor was the highlight of the match, scoring a hat-trick. The player from ENPPI Sports Club, from Egypt, opened the scoring with 14 minutes of play. Youssouf Ahmed drew for the Djibouti team at 33. Adebayor returned to swing the net at 36 in the first stage, putting Niger at an advantage.

In the second half, Mohamed Wonkoye, Daniel Sosah and, again, Adebayor extended the score for the Nigerians. With five minutes to go, Yabe Siad reduced to Djibouti, who didn’t even have time to think of a reaction, as, in the next minute, Issa Djibrilla scored two goals and decreed the rout.

With seven points won in six games, Niger is in third place in Group A, while the Djibouti team is the bottom of the group with six defeats in six games.
