Zhurova urged athletes to follow the example of tennis player Prikhodko who supported the Russians
Olympic champion in speed skating, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova reacted to the performance of Ukrainian tennis player Oleg Prikhodko in support of Russian athletes. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
“I sincerely sympathize with him. For his honesty and tough stance, he will now receive a bad connection from the people and the federation in Ukraine, ”the deputy said. She added that Prikhodko acted like a real athlete, and urged everyone to follow his example.

Zhurova also called the correct policy of international tennis organizations in relation to Russian athletes. “Everyone who tries to behave negatively is stopped. If other federations followed the example of tennis, the world sport would be very different,” she said.
Earlier on March 4, Prikhodko supported the Russians. “I believe that such condemnation of athletes only fuels the conflict more. Thus, athletes begin to arrange a war on and off the court, forgetting the basic principle of sports, ”said the tennis player.
In the spring of 2022, Russian tennis players were banned from playing in tournaments in the UK. Due to sanctions, domestic athletes were forced to miss Wimbledon. In response, the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) stripped the tournament of ranking points.
