Sportskeeda: Lionel Messi turned down PSG’s first contract extension offer
Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi has turned down the club’s first offer of a new contract. Sportskeeda reports.
According to the publication, a week ago, the Parisian team sent the striker an agreement, but Messi refused to sign it. It is specified that the Argentinean was offered a salary lower than that stipulated by his current contract, and this did not suit the football player.
On February 26, it became known about the plans of the PSG leadership to cut the salary fund by 30 percent in the summer of 2023. This will lead to the fact that the Parisians can stop working with at least one of the leaders of the team – the Frenchman Kylian Mbappe, the Brazilian Neymar or Messi. The reduction in costs is due to a settlement agreement with the Union of European Football Associations on financial fair play.
Messi joined PSG in August 2021. Before that, he played for Barcelona throughout his career, with which he won the Spanish championship ten times and won the Champions League four times.
