Monson says he supports IBA’s decision to take action against World Cup boycotting countries
Mixed martial arts fighter (MMA) Jeff Monson appreciated the decision of the International Boxing Association (IBA) to open a case against countries boycotting the 2023 World Cup due to Russia’s participation in it. His words are quoted by Sport-Express.
Monson said he supported the IBA’s decision, as there is no place for politics and business in sports. “Each person and each team must become better by competing with other participants. We must be together despite all world events, ”he considered.
On March 1, the IBA announced that it had opened a disciplinary case against the heads of national federations of countries boycotting the World Cup. The case was opened against the heads of the associations of the United States, Canada, Sweden, the Czech Republic and New Zealand.
On October 5, the IBA allowed boxers from Russia and Belarus to participate in international competitions under the auspices of the organization. Athletes are allowed to compete under national flags, and if they win, the national anthem will be played.
