The International Swimming Federation (FINA) agreed to hold the World Championships in Kazan
The World Short Course Swimming Championship, which was supposed to be held in Kazan in December this year, will be held in the capital of Tatarstan in 2026. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the Deputy Minister of Sports of Russia Andrey Fedorov.
According to him, the Republic of Tatarstan and the All-Russian Swimming Federation held talks with the International Swimming Federation (FINA), which agreed on the postponement. It is also specified that the fee paid by the Russian side for the right to host the tournament in 2022 will be offset against the upcoming competitions.
In March, FINA decided to deprive Kazan of the right to host the tournament. The competition, which will be held from December 17 to 22, has been moved to Melbourne.
At the end of February, many international sports organizations stopped allowing Russians to compete on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Russia was also deprived of the right to host major international competitions. In some sports, such as tennis, cycling, motorsport and chess, Russians continue to play in a neutral status.
