Assistant head coach of the Croatian national team Vedran Corluka shared his impressions of the Russian national team’s performance in the last match of the World Cup qualifying tournament. The athlete’s interview was published on the YouTube channel “Out”.
Corluka said he was confident in the victory of the Croatian national team. The coach noted that at the moment the Croatian players are better than the Russian ones. He also gave advice to the Russians for getting into the final stage of the World Cup. “We need to add eggs in key games,” he recommended.
The meeting took place in Split on Sunday, November 14, and ended with a score of 1: 0 in favor of Croatia. The only goal was scored by Fedor Kudryashov, who scored his own goal in the 81st minute of the match.
Thus, the Russian national team with 22 points finished second in group H and could not directly qualify for the World Cup in Qatar. Thanks to the victory, the Croatians scored 23 points and successfully qualified for the world championship.
The three remaining tickets to the World Cup will be awarded in March 2022. Ten second-placed teams in the qualifying groups and the top two nations from the League of Nations will compete for them.
Vedran Corluka is the 2018 vice-champion of the world with the Croatian national team. From 2012 until the end of his playing career in 2021, the footballer played as a defender in Lokomotiv Moscow.
