Mourinho suspended for two games after arguing with fourth official

A Roma will have an embezzlement on the edge of the field in the next two rounds of the Italian Championship. Coach José Mourinho was punished by the Italian sporting justice after arguing with the arbitration last Tuesday, in the club’s defeat to Cremonese.

The Portuguese coach was expelled at the beginning of the second half, after an argument with Marco Serra, the fourth referee of the match. After seeing his team lose 2-1 to the bottom of the competition, Mourinho accused the member of the refereeing team of provoking him.

The punishment was decreed for the coach “Having vehemently and provocatively contested an arbitration decision, reiterating this behavior at the time of the expulsion order”, according to the court. As a result, in addition to losing the duels against Juventus and Sassuolo, Mourinho was fined €10,000 (R$55,400 at current prices).

Fifth in the Italian Championship, Roma have 44 points and are fighting for a place in the next Champions League. In the Europa League, the club from the capital managed to overcome RB Salzburg in the last phase and will face Real Sociedad in the round of 16.
