In addition to the vice-championship for the Ecuadorian team that night, Rubro-Negro lost the Brazilian Super Cup to palm trees and ranked third in the FIFA Club World Cupafter being defeated by Al-Hilal, from Saudi Arabia, in the semifinal.

The Cariocas dominated the first half and wasted good chances. Thiago Maia and Ayrton Lucas hit the post. In the final stage, Del Valle held Flamengo until extra time, when Arrascaeta scored the winning goal, which took the duel into overtime.
In overtime, the Flamengo players had an offensive posture, but ran into a lack of creativity. Thus, the duel was decided on penalties. This time, Arrascaeta was the villain, wasting the only charge among the ten in the dispute.
The game

Flamengo only managed to arrive with danger in the 39th minute. Matheus Gonçalves won the marker and kicked over Ramírez. The move cheered up the Red-Blacks, who increased the pressure in the final minutes. David Luiz had the opportunity to score, but headed over the crossbar. In the last bid, the cariocas reached the goal with Arrascaeta, after a pass from Everton.
In overtime, the home team kept possession of the ball and the pressure. But the Red-Blacks continued to have problems creating good chances. Del Valle looked tired and didn’t bother the Carioca defense. With that, the decision ended up going to penalties.
In penalties, the hero of normal time, Arrascaeta ended up being the only one to waste the kick among the ten players. Landazuri converted the last one for Del Valle, who took the title.
