Foden doubles Manchester City beat Bristol to advance to FA Cup

In a game valid for the round of 16 of the FA Cup this Tuesday, the manchester city defeated Bristol City 3-0. Foden (twice) and De Bruyne scored the goals of the match at the Ashton Gate stadium in Bristol.

With the classification, Manchester City awaits the results of the other matches to know its opponent in the quarterfinals. Now, Pep Guardiola’s men are preparing for next Saturday’s duel against Newcastle, for the 26th round of the Premier League.

Bristol City lost a 12-game unbeaten run with elimination. The English second division club, who have not lost since December 26, had dispatched West Brom in the previous round. The team’s next game will be against Cardiff City, on Saturday.

The game

Manchester started attacking from the first minute of the game. Shortly after the ball began to roll, Phillips shot from outside the area and the ball exploded in the crossbar. In the seventh minute, Mahrez equalized with De Bruyne and crossed low for Foden, who only needed to complete it for the back of the net.

Even with the advantage, the visitors continued to play in the attacking field. At 23, Foden lifted the ball in the area and Mahrez took it first, but defender Kalas saved it on top of the line.

On the return of the break, Manchester continued to have control of the game, but creating fewer clear opportunities. Bristol began to threaten the visitors more and had a good chance in the 26th minute, when Scott crossed and Bell headed into the penalty area, but failed to direct the ball into the goal.

However, the good moment for the home team was short-lived. At 29, Alvarez touched the area to Foden, who kicked in and extended Manchester’s lead. Seven minutes later, De Bruyne curled a shot past O’Leary’s corner from outside the area to make the score 3-0.
