President of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF) Andrey Filatov commented on the transition of the organization to the Asian Chess Federation (ACF). His words are given on the official website of the FSR.
Filatov thanked the delegates of the ACF Continental Assembly for voting for the inclusion of Russian chess players in it. “This speaks, on the one hand, of trust in us, and on the other hand, of the well-done work of our federation,” he added. It is noted that the final accession will take place on May 1, 2023.
Earlier, on February 28, it became known that at a meeting of the ACF General Assembly, a decision was made to admit Russia to the organization. Prior to this, it was reported that the board of the International Chess Federation approved this transition.
In April-May 2023, the Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi will compete for the world chess crown with the Chinese Ding Liren. The tournament will be held in Astana (Kazakhstan), the domestic player will play under a neutral flag. The current world champion, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, refused to defend the title.
