The Russian Chess Federation was admitted to the Asian Chess Federation
The Russian Chess Federation (RCF) was accepted into the Asian Chess Federation (ACF). It is reported by RIA Novosti.
The transition was confirmed by the lawyer of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Alexander Martynov. It is specified that this decision was made on Tuesday, February 28, at a meeting of the ACF General Assembly.
On February 22, it became known that the FIDE Council allowed Russia to move to Asia. The desire of Russian chess players to play in Asia was reported in April 2022.
In April-May 2023, the Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi will fight for the world chess crown with the Chinese Ding Liren. The tournament will be held in Astana (Kazakhstan), the domestic player will play under a neutral flag. The current world champion, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, refused to defend the title.
