Norway announced a boycott of tournaments under the auspices of the International Boxing Association (IBA) with the participation of Russians. This was reported on the website of the Norwegian Boxing Federation.
Due to this decision, Norwegian athletes will miss the 2023 World Cup. It is noted that judges and other officials of the country will also not be present at the tournaments.
Earlier it became known that several European countries, including Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom, as well as the United States and Canada, decided to skip the World Cup. Ukraine also joined the boycott. The American team said that the participation of Russians in the tournament would violate the sanctions of the International Olympic Committee and the principles of fair play.
On October 5, the IBA allowed boxers from Russia and Belarus to participate in international competitions under the auspices of the organization. Athletes are allowed to compete under national flags, and if they win, the national anthem will be played.
