The Athletic: Ovechkin was unhappy with Washington’s decision to trade Orlov to Boston
Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin was unhappy with the team’s decision to trade Russian guard Dmitry Orlov to the Boston Bruins. It is reported by The Athletic.
According to the publication, Ovechkin met with the club’s general manager Brian McLellan to discuss this exchange and express his opinion. “Given the team’s recent troubles, their position in the standings and the injury to top defenseman John Carlson, he also understands why McLellan does what he does,” added correspondent Tariq El-Bashir, who is familiar with the situation.
Orlov, who is a close friend of Ovechkin, spent 12 years in the capital’s team. On February 24, he and forward Garnet Hathaway moved to Boston in exchange for several draft picks and the rights to Russian striker Andrei Svetlakov, owned by the Bostonians. At the moment, Svetlakov plays in CSKA.
On February 15, Ovechkin announced the death of his father Mikhail and left Washington for a week. During his absence, the team suffered five defeats in a row and dropped to 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
