On February 13, New Zealand fighter Dan Hooker revealed that Makhachev went to doctors in Australia to get a drip for dehydration after a weight race, which is against UFC rules. The same claims against the Russian were expressed by his rival Australian Alexander Volkanovski. USADA declined to investigate the allegations against the fighter.
On February 12, Makhachev defeated Volkanovski at UFC 284 by unanimous decision. He defended the organization’s lightweight title won in the fall for the first time.
