The head of USADA Tigert opposed the participation of RUSADA in the consideration of the case of Kamila Valieva
The head of the American Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), Travis Tigert, opposed the participation of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) in the consideration of the case of figure skater Kamila Valieva. His words are quoted by journalist Christine Brennan in Twitter.
“To allow an organization that does not comply with the rules to be a party to such a process is difficult to understand. As well as the fact that they are allowed to make the original decision, which is now being appealed,” Tigert said. He expressed hope that the organization would not interfere in the investigation of the skater’s case.
On February 24, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) registered appeals against the verdict in the Valieva case by RUSADA, the International Skating Union (ISU) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). WADA called for the athlete to be disqualified for four years from the date of the decision, cancel her results starting December 25, 2021, and deprive her of all medals and prize money.
On January 13, the RUSADA disciplinary committee, which is an independent body from the parent organization, informed WADA that Valieva did not violate the anti-doping rules. At the same time, the figure skater was deprived of the gold of the Russian Championship-2022.
At the 2022 Olympics, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to a doping scandal with her participation. In the sample of the skater from December 2021, traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
