Vingegaard sentences O Gran Camiño with another recital
Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) sentenced this Saturday The Great Road 2023 with another recital in the third stage which ended at the top of O Castelo, where he repeated his triumph and the Basque Ion Izagirre (Cofidis) missed the podium after suffering a fall in the descent of the last kilometer.
The last Tour champion has won two of the first three stages (the first was suspended by snow) and, except for a major surprise, he will close his triumphant passage through the Galician roads with the yellow jersey.
The queen stage of the Galician round, which took place entirely in the province of Ourense, had to be cut by snow and low temperatures. The double ascent to the port of Santa Mariña was cancelled, in addition to shortening the last ascent.
Attila Valter set a very hard pace, very selective. Only three riders could hold it, the strongest in the Galician race: Vindegaard, Guerreiro and Izagirre. The four reached the last two kilometers together. Vingegaard tore his fellow breakers to shreds with a mammoth change of pace.
The Portuguese from Movistar Rubén Guerreiro and Ion Izagirre were fighting for second place, but the Basque fell on the descent of the demanding end of the ascent to O Castelo. He entered more than two minutes behind Vingegaard.
