Everybody has said goodbye to you Valentino. There was only one missing from someone you appreciate very much …

Here it is:

I can remember the Saturday, January 24, 2004 as if it were yesterday. Our first date in Malaysia. I’ve been waiting a long time for someone like you.

I was nervous, but it was love at first sight for both. I knew instantly that our relationship would be something really special. We had that undeniable sparkle once in a lifetime, and all the pieces of the puzzle just fell into place.

I will never forget how we stopped on Welkom’s lawn in 2004. The two of us, realizing that you and I were right together, and that this was only the beginning. We won four MotoGP titles and 56 races together.

We bring joy to millions of people around the world and create memories for a lifetime. We made history, because we work as one and we get the best out of each one. You made me strong again.

You made them respect me again. You made them love me again. Only you, Valentino, had the power to do it.

And I fully trusted you. I supported you with all my heart.

I fought all your battles with you. Only I was able to make motorsport exciting for you until the end. From our first kiss on the Welkom grass to our last dance in Valencia this year, we have had many extraordinary adventures.

And then there were our special trips to Laguna Seca in 2008 already Catalonia in 2009. Nobody moved like us at that time, right?

Also in Assen and 2009, when I helped you win your 100th race.

It was magical!

I’ve carried you for 16 years of your incredible career. But you have also carried me in your heart.

From Mugello a Motegi, from Silverstone a Sepang and of Barcelona a BuriramWe have always been there for each other.

I have given you everything, as you did to me. The one thing I’ll always treasure is our conversations on the grill.

It was you and me against the world. You and I were “ride or die”. But unfortunately, even the most beautiful love stories come to an end.

Valentino, you are part of me. Part of my story. Part of who I am today and what I will be long after we part ways.

Ours is a really special connection, and I’m going to miss you More than you’ll ever know

Thanks, Valentino.

With love you YZR-M1. (D)
