The most titled player in the KHL Danis Zaripov announced his retirement
The captain of the Kazan “Ak Bars” Danis Zaripov announced his retirement. His words are quoted by the official website of the Continental Hockey League.
“No matter how much this moment was delayed, age, sores and other situations did not allow me to gain optimal shape this year. Everything came to what he said: “Danis, stop, that’s enough,” the athlete said. He expressed gratitude to his teammates and added that he would stay with the club to pass on his experience to the players and help them overcome the difficult path to the playoffs.
Earlier, on February 24, 41-year-old Zaripov, who is the most titled player in the KHL, played a farewell match for Ak-Bars against Metallurg. The meeting ended with the victory of the team from Magnitogorsk with a score of 6:3.
On September 4 last year, 41-year-old Zaripov announced his desire to return to the Russian national team. “I wanted and still want to play for the national team, but I understand that this is already unrealistic, only if they create some kind of Russia-U40 veterans team,” the athlete added.
Zaripov spent 22 years in the KHL. Playing for Ak-Bars, the striker won the Gagarin Cup three times. In addition, he twice became the league champion along with Metallurg.
