RUSADA appealed to CAS against decision to find figure skater Valieva not guilty in doping case

The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) the decision of the disciplinary committee to find figure skater Kamila Valieva not guilty of an anti-doping rule violation. This was reported on the website of the court.

CAS registered appeals against the verdict in the Valieva case by RUSADA, the International Skating Union (ISU) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The plaintiffs are seeking the cancellation of the athlete’s acquittal and recognition of her guilt in the doping case.

On February 21, WADA filed an appeal with CAS against the decision of the RUSADA disciplinary committee to find Valieva not guilty of an anti-doping rule violation. The Organization called for the athlete to be disqualified for four years from the date of the decision, to cancel her results starting from December 25, 2021, and to deprive her of all medals and prize money.

On January 13, the RUSADA disciplinary committee, which is an independent body from the main organization, informed WADA that Valieva was not guilty of an anti-doping rule violation. At the same time, the figure skater was deprived of the gold of the Russian Championship-2022.

At the 2022 Olympics, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to a doping scandal with her participation. In the sample of the skater from December 2021, traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
