Switzerland’s Supreme Court rejects RFU’s appeal against international tournament suspension
The Supreme Court of Switzerland rejected the appeal of the Russian Football Union (RFU) to remove Russian clubs and teams from international tournaments. The court decision was at the disposal of TASS.
The Swiss side stated that the appeal was filed out of time and therefore could not be considered. The RFU had 30 days to file an appeal, but did not meet the deadline. It is noted that no costs will be charged or awarded.
Appeals by RPL clubs to suspension from European competition by the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) were rejected in July 2022. Zenit, Sochi, Dynamo and CSKA tried to challenge the non-admission to European tournaments. The Swiss Supreme Court is the highest authority for appealing CAS decisions.
Russian football has faced isolation due to the decisions of FIFA and UEFA. The Russian national team has lost the chance to participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and the clubs do not have the opportunity to play in European competition.
