News.ru: doctor Yartseva said that the case of Kostomarov’s immune system failure is unique

Immunologist Irina Yartseva, in an interview with News.ru, explained the serious condition of the Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov.

She called the figure skater’s case of immune system failure unique in a 46-year-old healthy athlete. The doctor explained that for such a failure of immunity, serious reasons are needed, for example, HIV or cancer, and in the case of a strong athlete’s body, “this does not fit into the usual framework.”

According to the specialist, from the very beginning of the illness, the skater “everything went wrong, unfortunately.” “Everything that doctors try to do is something incredible, in such cases there is very little chance of survival. No one can give any forecasts, the current is too aggressive, ”Yartseva said.

She stressed that doctors can only help fight, but are not able to regulate the work of body systems for a person.

Earlier, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Moscow Medical Academy Pavel Vorobyov explained the impossibility of treating Roman Kostomarov abroad. According to him, “in the state in which Kostomarov was, he simply would not have been taken.”

On February 20, the SHOT Telegram channel reported that a quarter of Kostomarov’s brain was affected due to hemorrhage and hematoma in the frontal lobe. Later, doctors said that there was no severe cerebral edema. Tomography revealed only a small focus of clogged blood vessels in the head. However, according to REN TV, on the night of February 21, the athlete had another stroke.

Roman Kostomarov was hospitalized on January 10 with pneumonia and influenza B. The figure skater underwent several limb amputations. According to the Telegram channels “112” and Mash, Kostomarov’s left foot was amputated, as well as several fingers on both hands.
