Ederson goes wrong, and Manchester City concedes a draw to Leipzig for the Champions League round of 16

This Wednesday, Manchester City and RB Leipzig drew 1-1 this Wednesday in the first leg for the round of 16 of the Champions League, at the Red Bull Arena. Mahrez opened the scoring for the visitors, while Gvardiol took advantage of Ederson’s wrong exit and left everything the same.

The teams face each other again on March 14, in a return game, which takes place at the Etihad Stadium, in Manchester, at 5 pm (Brasília time). Before, however, the teams have commitments for their nationals. This Saturday, Leipzig receives Frankfurt, at 2:30 pm, for the 22nd round of the German Championship. On the same day and time, City faces Bournemouth, away from home, for the 25th round of the English.

The game

City had their first chance in the 12th minute. After a corner kick, Rúben Dias headed it in and Blaswich made a safe save. Afterwards, Grealish suffered a foul near the area, but Mahrez stamped the barrier.

After a start to the first half without much intensity, City managed to arrive with danger and opened the scoring at 26. Grealish regained possession of the ball after Schlager’s mistake and played for Mahrez, who invaded the area and kicked to put City in advantage .

In the sequence, Rodri almost extended, but the header went close to the Blaswich crossbar. Before finishing the initial stage, Leipzig had the first finalization in the game. Timo Werner shot from the edge of the area and Ederson held it.

Five minutes into the second half, Mahrez had the chance to score the second. Gundogan went to the bottom, played back and found shirt number 26, who finished, but hit the defense. Leipzig, little by little, improved in the game and jeopardized City’s goal. Henrichs received from André Silva, free in the area, and sent it close to the City goal, but from the outside.

Minutes later, André Silva made a good move on the left and even with an option to cross, the Portuguese finished and saw Ederson make a good save. After insisting so much, Leipzig reached a tie, at 24. Halstenberg took a corner kick in the area and Gvardiol went up and left everything the same. In the bid, Ederson tried to anticipate, but ended up going wrong, leaving the goal free.

The Leipzig goalkeeper made a good save after Gundogan’s kick to ensure equality on the scoreboard. In the final stretch, City had another arrival, but without much danger.
