Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has been fined €50,000 for his criticism of referees after the defeat of the Bavarian team to Borussia Mönchengladbachannounced this Wednesday the German Football Association (DFB).
After Bayern’s 3-2 defeat by Gladbach on Saturday in German ChampionshipNagelsmann harshly criticized the referee of the match, Tobias Welz, mainly for the expulsion of defender Dayot Upamecano, who received a red card nine minutes into the first half.
After the game, the coach of Bayern Munich apologized and acknowledged having exceeded his words.
“Emotions belong in sport but I must apologize for my choice of words against Tobias Welz’s refereeing,” Nagelsmann wrote on social media.
Emotions are part of sport. And given the red card, I had to vent after the game. However, I have to apologize for the choice of words to the team around Tobias Welz. Unfortunately I went too far there.

The DFB disciplinary commission considered that there was not enough reason to punish Nagelsmann with a suspension, taking into account his apology “on the same night”, and decided to only impose the €50,000 fine on the Bayern coach.
With that, Julian Nagelsmann can focus on Bayern’s next commitment: the visit to Union Berlin on Sunday, in the 22nd round of the Bundesliga, a direct confrontation in the fight for the title.
