Argentine midfielder Rodrigo de Paul, from Atlético de Madrid, suffered a muscle injury and is out of Saturday’s classic against Real Madrid, for the 23rd round of the Spanish Championship.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Atletico said De Paul underwent medical tests which found “a muscle injury to his left thigh”.
The ‘colchonero’ club did not set a time frame for the player’s recovery, limiting itself to stating that it will “follow his evolution”, but according to the local press, he could be sidelined for a period of two to three weeks.
Last weekend, De Paul started in Atlético’s 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao and was substituted early in the second half.
The derby against Real Madrid is scheduled for 2:30 pm (Brasília time), at the Santiago Bernabéu.
