In Norway, assessed the level of the world championship in cross-country skiing without the Russians

Journalist Saldvedt said that the World Cup in cross-country skiing would be less interesting without the Russians

The journalist of the Norwegian channel NRK Jan Petter Saldvedt assessed the level of the World Championship in cross-country skiing without the Russians. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

“Almost no one considers the presence of Russian skiers acceptable. But their removal affects the level of competition. The World Cup will be different and somewhat less interesting,” he said. Saldvedt noted that the absence of Russians will affect men’s competitions the most.

Saldvedt said that he wants the best skiers in the world to fight for medals, but now this is impossible. “Now the Russians are not part of the skiing world,” he added.

On February 16, the International Ski Federation (FIS) published a video announcement of the 2023 World Championships, which included footage of Olympic champions Alexander Bolshunov and Natalya Nepryaeva. Later, the press attache of the organization, Sinne Dierhaug, apologized for what happened, calling the inclusion of the Russians in the video a mistake.

The World Championship will be held from February 22 to March 5, 2023 in the Slovenian city of Planica. The Russians will not take part in the tournament due to the FIS suspension.
