Peru loses Alexander Callens through injury, but recovers Yoshimar Yotún for the crucial duel with Venezuela

The match, to be played in Caracas, is decisive in Peru’s aspirations to enter the qualifying zone for Qatar 2022.

The defender Alexander Callens will be out, due to injury, in the Peruvian team that will play this Tuesday, against Venezuela, a crucial match of the fourteenth day of the South American qualifier for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

“The Peruvian soccer team informs that the soccer player Alexander Callens is disaffected from the call for the game against Venezuela for the South American qualifiers,” reported the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF).

The New York City player suffered the injury during the first half of the qualifying match that Peru won 3-0 against Bolivia last Thursday at the National Stadium in Lima, for which he was replaced by Luis Abram, player of Granada of Spain .

After that clash, the coach of Peru, Ricardo Gareca, declared that Callens “got a bit burdened” and decided to change it “for prevention.”

The defender underwent an MRI scan that confirmed his injury this Friday night.

For the game against Venezuela, crucial in Peru’s aspirations to enter the qualifying zone for Qatar 2022, Gareca will have to choose Callens’s replacement between Abram and the experienced Carlos Zambrano, a Boca Juniors player.

The Peruvian team will be able to count on the midfielder Yoshimar Yotún, from Cruz Azul, who could not play against Bolivia due to suspension and who also underwent an MRI on Friday, with positive results.

The newspaper Trade announced, on the other hand, that the substitute goalkeeper of the Peruvian team, Carlos Cáceda, was subjected to a test to rule out the possibility that he has been infected with COVID-19.

Although this information has not yet been officially confirmed by the FPF, the newspaper added that goalkeeper Angelo Campos, from Alianza Lima, arrived at the National Sports Village of Lima (Videna) to also be subjected to the test, given the possibility that can be summoned to replace Cáceda.

La Blanquirroja’s starting goalkeeper is Pedro Gallese, from MLS Orlando City, and also has veteran José Carvallo, from the Sports University, as its usual third goalkeeper. (D)
