Valencia loses to Getafe and remains in the fight against relegation in Espanyol

In a match valid for the 22nd round of the Spanish Championship, Valencia lost to Getafe by 1-0 at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez, this Monday. The goal of the game was scored by Borja Mayoral.

Valencia’s situation in the table is worrying. The traditional team from Spain reached its sixth consecutive defeat and occupies the 19th position, with 20 points. Trying to escape relegation, the club will have another challenge next Saturday, against Real Sociedad.

With the victory, Getafe eased the pressure a little. Coach Quique Sánchez Flores’s charges overtook Valencia and climbed to 16th place, with 22 points. The Madrid metropolitan area team faces Villarreal next Monday.

The game

Who had the best chances of the first stage was Getafe. The home team were in danger with Domingos Duarte, in a header after a corner in the 40th minute. Munir also had a chance to open the scoring in the 43rd minute, but goalkeeper Mamardashvili saved Valencia.

In the second half, Getafe finally got the winning goal. After a corner kick, Alderete deflected a header and Borja Mayoral scored in the back of the net, in the 37th minute. Valencia even managed to score with Francisco Perez, but the VAR annulled the play for offside.
