The head of the ATP, Andrea Gaudenzi, criticized the principle of collective responsibility in sports
The head of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), Andrea Gaudenzi, criticized the principle of collective responsibility in sports. His words leads Globo.
The functionary noted that the ATP adheres to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and does not allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in team competitions under the flags of their countries. However, he recalled, in other sports, the participation of athletes is prohibited even in the individual competition. “We do not believe in collective guilt. These guys didn’t do anything wrong. They have played tennis all their lives. They should be able to speak and have a voice, to say what they think,” said Gaudenzi.

On February 12, IOC President Thomas Bach condemned the interference of politicians in the discussion on the admission of Russian athletes to the 2024 Games in Paris. “It is not for governments to decide who can participate in sporting events. That would be the end of international sporting events as we know them today,” he said.
The IOC is considering the possibility of admitting Russians to the 2024 Games in a neutral status, but a final decision on this issue has not been made. Competitions in Paris should be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
