Ecuador obtained five bronze medals in the men’s and women’s singles games, as well as in men’s doubles and one in women’s doubles.

Mexico in doubles games – ladies, men and mixed – he seized the three medals in dispute during the International Table Tennis Open which was held in Cuenca; while the India he prevailed in individual games, ladies and men. Ecuador reached four bronze medals, by accessing the same number of semifinals.

In the individual women’s games, in the group stage the Ecuadorians reached the round of 16 Angélica Arellano, Eunice Gálvez, María Cabrera, Mylena Plaza and Nathaly Paredes.

The only ones that passed the round were Plaza and Paredes. The first one reached the quarterfinals as they had no rival in the key and stayed in this phase after losing 2-4, (3-11, 6-11, 13-11, 7-11, 11-2 and 6-11) against the indú Ankita Das.

For his part, Paredes, who was also free in the round of 16, defeated 4-0 in the quarterfinals at Kristal Melendez, from Puerto Rico, with scores 11-8, 11-6, 11-4 and 11-8. This triumph put the Ecuadorian in the semifinals, where they fell 1-4 to the indú Reeth Tennison, with board 5-11, 8-11, 11-9, 7-11 and 4-11.

The final was played by Tennison and Das, who had eliminated the Ecuadorian Plaza, with the victory being favorable for Tennison, who won 4-2, with partials 6-11, 11-4, 11-6, 16-18, 11-1 and 11-6.

Men’s Singles

In the men’s singles games, after the group stage, the Ecuadorians reached the round of 16 Diego Piguave, John Espinoza, Rodrigo Tapia, Emiliano Riofrío, Geovanny Coello and Jeremy Cedeño.

Piguave stayed in the phase after losing 2-4 to the Mexican Juan Jesus Gomez; Coello and Cedeño, also landed in the second round when they fell by the same score (0-4) against the Mexican Darío Arce and the indú Sanil Shetty, respectively.

Tapia and Riofrío agreed to the quarters by beating Rodrigo Vigo (4-2), from Peru, and Derek Valentin (4-2), from Puerto Rico, respectively.

Riofrío stayed in the quarterfinals after being overtaken by him indú Manush Utpalbhai Shah, who defeated him 3-4 (11-9, 9-11, 4-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-9 and 7-11); while Tapia advanced to one of the semifinals after overcoming 4-3, with scores 7-11, 11-6, 11-9, 4-11, 11-5, 5-11 and 11-7, to Tarek Al-Samhoury, from Austria.

With his victory, Tapia had to face the Mexican in the semifinals Juan Jesus Gomez, who beat it 4-3, with results 7-11, 14-12, 8-11, 11-8, 6-11, 13-11 and 11-9.

Gomez played the final against Shah, who emerged victorious 4-1 on aggregate with numbers 11-7, 11-9, 11-13, 11-7 and 11-9.

Doubles games

The doubles games had complete Mexican dominance in the ladies, men and mixed games.

In the female branch, the Ecuadorians Nathaly Paredes and Mylena Plaza they reached the semifinal, after being free in the quarter-final bracket. His path to the title was cut short by the victory of Ankita Das y Reeth Tennison, from India, who defeated them 3-0, with sets 1–5, 11-9 and 11-6.

For their part, the Ecuadorians María Cabrera and Eunice Gálvez, they stayed in the quarterfinals when they were defeated by the Puerto Ricans Fabiola Díaz and Kristal Meléndez, 3-0, with a score of 11-6, 11-7 and 11-7.

The final of this series was won by the Mexican duo made up of Arantxa Cossio Aceves and Clio Barcenas, who defeated Indians Das and Tennison 3-1.

In men’s doubles, Ecuador remained in the semifinals with its two teams made up of Jeremy Cedeño-Diego Piguave and Emiliano Riofrío with Rodrigo Tapia.

Cedeño-Piguave fell 3-0 to Indians Shetty-Shah; while the Riofrío-Tapia couple lost 3-0 to the Mexican Arce-Gómez. In the title dispute, the Aztecs defeated Shetty-Shah 3-2.

The mixed doubles competition left the Mexicans Arantxa Cossío Aceves and Juan Jesús Gómez, like the winners when they beat their compatriots 3-1 in the title dispute Darío Arce and Clío Barcenas.
