Silvia Ortiz Morocho surpassed Paola Bonilla’s national women’s marathon record this Sunday by setting a time of 2 hours 27 minutes and 36 seconds in Seville Marathonin Spain, an achievement that allows him to be classified World Athletics Championships in Budapest which will be held from August 19 to 27, 2023.
The Ecuadorian Athletics Federation announced via social media that Ortiz “remains 36 seconds behind the minimum” for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The athlete, registered for the competition as an independent, crossed the finish line in eleventh place.

Kenyan Jackline Chelal (2h 20min 29s) was the winner of the test at 42 kilometers and 197 meters, followed by Aberu Ayana (2h 21min 54s), Urge Diro (2h 23min 5s) and Citali Moscote (2h 24min 53s).
“Among women, the countries that saw record declines in Seville were Finland (Alisa Vainio, 2:27:26), Ecuador (Silvia Patricia Ortiz, 2:27:36) and Hungary (Nóra Szabó, 2:28:25)”, a note on the website points out I’m a runner.
“Chelal was unmatched in the final stretch of the test and sealed his victory with a 2:20:29, well short of the test record but marking the second-best mark in Seville Marathon history. Aberu Ayana crossed the finish line in second place with 2:21:54, and Urge Diro was third with 2:23:05, he adds. I’m a runner.
As the media said Sports stadium4,500 runners entered from countries other than Spain, “representing a record in the event’s history and an increase of 1,500 over last year’s figures.”
