Lazio defeats Salernitana in the debut of coach Paulo Sousa, ex-Flamengo

Lazio took to the pitch this Carnival Sunday and, finally, won again in the Italian Championship. After three consecutive setbacks, the team defeated Salernitana by 2-0, with two goals from striker Immobile, in a game that promoted the debut of coach Paulo Sousa, formerFlamengono time rival.

The Celeste club has now taken fourth place in the tournament, with 42 points won, and is fighting for a place in the next edition of the Champions League. The distance to leader Napoli is already twenty points.

On the other hand, Paulo Sousa will have the mission to avoid Salernitana’s relegation. The team is in 16th place with 21 points. The advantage over the relegation zone is only four points, but it could be reduced if Hellas Verona beats Roma this Sunday, at 4:45 pm (Brasília time).

In their next match, Lazio will visit CRF Cluj, from Romania, for the second leg of the second phase of the Conference League. The meeting is scheduled for 2:45 pm next Thursday – in the first leg, the Italians won by 1 to 0. In Serie A Tim, the team faces Sampdoria in the next round.

How were the goals?

The first goal came 15 minutes into the second half. Lazio pressed Salernitana’s ball out and managed to steal the ball with Marusic, who crossed low for Immobile to reach alone and complete for the nets.

Less than ten minutes later, Immobile scored his and the team’s second in the match, this time from the penalty spot. The Italian suffered the infraction and converted the charge into the right corner of goalkeeper Luigi Sepe.
