Neymar, Mbappé and Messi score as PSG look for a stoppage-time comeback against Lille

the sunday of Paris Saint Germain (PSG) started full of emotions. On this Carnival morning, the team opened up two goals ahead of Lille, at the Parque dos Príncipes, suffered the turnaround and even managed to regain the advantage at the end, with goals from Mbappé and Messi, winning the match 4-3 and breaking the streak of three consecutive games without a win. On the other hand, he has a big problem ahead of him: Neymar left the field injured.

The playmaker had a great performance, with a goal and another assist for one of Mbappé’s goals. However, at the beginning of the final stage, he received a blow to his right ankle (the same one that was injured in the world Cup of Qatar in 2022) and had to be replaced. He left crying, on a stretcher, and worries for the sequel to the season.

Another who became doubtful is the left-back Nuno Mendes, who also felt it and was forced to leave the field, even in the first half. It should be noted that the team faces the Bayern Munchen in just over two weeks, on March 8th, around the round of 16 of the Champions League. The first leg was 1-0 for the Germans.

On the leaderboard, PSG remains at the top of the French Championship, with 57 points earned. Olympique de Marseille, in second place, is right behind, with 49. The rival, however, has one commitment less and can shorten the distance to five if it defeats Toulouse this Sunday, at 16:45 (Brasília time).

And who is PSG’s next opponent? The Marseille. The confrontation between leader and deputy leader is scheduled for next Sunday, at 16:45, at the Vélodrome stadium.

How was the game?

With less than a minute on the clock, Lille exchanged quick passes that found Weah’s foot. The American hit hard for Donnarumma’s great save. PSG then responded, at four, with Messi’s kick splayed by goalkeeper Chevalier.

In the 10th minute, Mbappé tried to reassure the fans with a beautiful goal. The playmaker received a pass from Neymar inside the area, passed between two markers – with the right to pen on one of them – and touched Chevalier’s exit. A painting!

Six minutes later, it was Neymar’s turn to score his in the match. The Brazilian was triggered after Messi’s light cut, he countered with Vitinha in the small area and completed for the empty goal. On the other side, Lille almost discounted with Jonathan David, at 20, but Donnarumma saved.

The goalkeeper, however, did not prevent the opponent’s goal in the 23rd minute. After a short corner kick, the ball reached André Gomes, who crossed to the right for Diakité to score with a header.

On the way back from the break, PSG had to deal with a big problem: Neymar’s injury. The team suffered the blow of the star’s absence and saw Lille reach the tie in the 12th minute, in a controversial penalty by Verratti on David (the referee did not even review the bid in VAR). David, who has nothing to do with it, converts the charge.

About ten minutes later, the visitors took advantage of the weakness of the Parisian team to turn the match around. André Gomes launched Bamba on the right side, who started a counter-attack and hit Donnarumma with no chance, already inside the area.

At 41, Mbappé gave PSG a new lease of life. The striker received pass after pass between Messi and Bernat and put it in the back of the net. The saving goal, on the other hand, came from Messi’s feet, in extra time, at 49. The Argentine, who was out of the blue, took a perfect free-kick at the entrance to the area, and declared the team’s triumph.
