Ex-Santos, Brazilian scores and ensures victory for Auxerre over Lyon

This Friday, the Lyon visited Auxerre, for the 24th round of the French Championship, but left with defeat. With a goal by the Brazilian Jubal, formerly of Santos, the hosts won the match by 2-1.

With the defeat, Lyon loses the chance to touch the top of the leaderboard and remains in ninth place, with 35 points. Still in that round, the team led by Franck Passi can lose up to two positions. Auxerre, Ligue 1’s runners-up with 18 points, is not gaining positions, but is leaning against the teams that are struggling not to fall.

Lyon will be back on the field on the 25th, at 1 pm (Brasília time), when they visit Angers for the 25th round of the French Championship. Auxerre will be on the field the next day, at 9 am, to face Lorient, away from home.

The visitors took the lead when, in the 36th minute of the first half, Corentin Tolisso crossed in the area for Moussa Dembélé to head in. Goalkeeper Andrei Radu even touched the ball, but let it in and Lyon cleared the scoreboard.

In the second half, needing to look for a comeback, Auxerre came back very offensive and after five minutes, midfielder Han-Noah Massengo was fouled inside the area and a penalty was awarded. The number 10 of the owners of the house, Gaëtan Perrin, charged in the right corner of goalkeeper Anthony Lopes, who touched the ball, but let it pass and conceded the tie.

After the goal, Auxerre maintained their intensity. Three minutes after equalizing the score, in a corner kick, the ball was left for Jubal to head free and turn the game around in his 100th appearance for the French team. For the remainder of the match, Lyon tried to seek a draw, but failed to break through the defense of the hosts and ended in defeat.
