Pavel Mamaev said he did not understand the reproaches due to the opening of the football academy in Dubai

Former Russian footballer Pavel Mamaev responded to criticism over the opening of a football academy in Dubai. His words are quoted by Match TV.

“I don’t understand what the reproach is. I believe that I have earned the right to be where I want to be at the moment, ”said Mamaev, adding that now he is very happy. The ex-athlete said that the idea to create a football school came during a spontaneous trip to Dubai.

On January 21, it became known that Mamaev, together with Dynamo forward Fedor Smolov, would open a children’s academy in Dubai. Olympic speed skating champion and State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova accused the players of evading mobilization and condemned the idea of setting up a school abroad. “If they do it for their own money, then it’s more correct to do it all the same in Russia. It’s better to spend on our children,” she added.

34-year-old Mamaev, who retired in February 2023, is known for playing for Torpedo, Rostov, Krasnodar, Khimki and CSKA, with whom he became the champion of Russia and won the Russian Cup three times. From 2010 to 2016, the athlete also played 15 matches for the Russian national team.
