Washington Capitals coach Laviolette expresses support for club captain Ovechkin after his father’s death
The head coach of the National Hockey League (NHL) Washington Capitals club Peter Laviolette reacted to the death of the father of team captain Alexander Ovechkin. His words are quoted by RMNB.
“Everyone in the dressing room knew what had happened. Alex sent a message to the players and organization to let us know. It is very sad. We sympathize with him and pray for him and his family,” the coach said. Laviolette expressed his support for Ovechkin and called this time very difficult.
On February 15, Ovechkin announced the death of his father, Mikhail. He thanked the fans for their support and asked not to disturb his family during a difficult period for her. Earlier, the hockey player left the location of “Washington” and flew to Moscow.
On January 10, Ovechkin Sr. was hospitalized with an exacerbation of a dissecting aneurysm. During the examination, a malignant neoplasm was found in a 71-year-old man.
