Vera has sought this fight since October to close out 2022 as a 135-pound title challenger, though he also challenged reigning champion Aljamain Sterling after the Jamaican successfully defended the division’s crown against TJ Dillashaw at UFC 280.

Chito received four of the last five fights in the UFC, falling only to the Brazilian José Aldo, who is the history of the company after announcing his retirement from mixed martial arts (MMA, in English).
