Kommunarka doctor Denis Protsenko said that Roman Kostomarov breathes on his own
Denis Protsenko, chief physician of the Kommunarka clinic, spoke about the treatment of Olympic ice dancing champion Roman Kostomarov. His words are quoted by AiF.ru.
“In the last 48 hours, the organ dysfunction has begun to resolve. And we really want to believe that such dynamics will continue, but it is impossible to make any forecasts, ”Protsenko shared. He noted that Kostomarov was breathing on his own for several days.
Protsenko also said that when he entered Kommunarka, the figure skater’s indicators spoke of a minimal chance of survival. “We understood that the methods by which we save lives have certain possible complications, which in the future may require surgical correction,” the specialist emphasized.
Earlier it was reported about a sharp deterioration in the condition of the skater. It was noted that he is under sedation. Then the athlete’s condition was stabilized.
On February 14, KP.RU announced that Kostomarov had undergone an operation to amputate the hands of both hands. Later, the athlete’s mother, Valentina, denied this. The Mash Telegram channel reported that the doctors managed to stop the infection in time and the skater removed several fingers on his hands. On February 7, it became known that the athlete had his left foot amputated.
Kostomarov was hospitalized on 10 January. He was diagnosed with left-sided pneumonia in association with influenza B. He was put on a ventilator and an oxygenator.
