The Russian striker of the National Hockey League (NHL) club “Washington Capitals” Alexander Ovechkin’s father Mikhail has died. The athlete wrote about this on Instagram (social network banned in Russia; owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned).
The 37-year-old hockey player thanked the fans for their support and asked them not to disturb his family during a difficult period for them.
On January 10, the athlete’s father was hospitalized with an exacerbation of a dissecting aneurysm. During the examination, a 71-year-old man was diagnosed with a malignant neoplasm, after which he was transferred to a specialized medical institution.
On February 14, it became known that Ovechkin left the location of the team and flew to Russia due to his father’s health problems. The owner of “Washington” Ted Leonsis expressed his support for the Russian striker.
